Nurturing relationships with clear consistent expectations are foundational to the emotional needs of a teen. BrickHouse Family Ministries provides these through the staff’s interactions with the residents in all settings of our program. While in the program teens learn how to accept responsibility, submit to authority and relate effectively to peers and adults.
Within counseling residents gain skills to improve communication; manage emotions, thoughts, behaviors; recover from substance use; and heal from past wounds. This is done through individual and group counseling from a Biblical perspective with a licensed mental health provider.
Family counseling is a critical component in a teen’s restoration. At BrickHouse Family Ministries, a key distinction of our program is that parents/guardians must be fully involved and do their part to help their teen. Family members participate weekly in sessions to improve family relationships through learning how to resolve conflict peaceably; understand each other better; develop positive interactions and home guidelines. A healthy family unit is irreplaceable in the maintaining of a teen’s progress once he completes residential.
Parenting is a tough job, especially with a teen who is struggling. Within parenting group, family members experience support from each other as well as gain tools to build strong families. Parenting group builds skills in the areas of nurturing relationships, establishing routines, maintaining expectations, adapting to challenges and connecting to community based on the research by the Search Institute. This group meets on Sunday evenings and about twice a month they gather around the table for a home cooked meal with each other, their teens and staff. It is a great time of connection, laughter and family building.
